0:06 we were just sitting here like
0:07 prepping for the show and
0:10 we want to talk to you today about
0:12 doing like the next right thing like
0:14 really thinking through it’s the next
0:16 right thing and Pawan said something
0:18 really profound
0:20 he you know I think you’ve heard or
0:23 if you haven’t heard he was in the
0:24 industry for Aerospace industry for 20
0:26 years doing some really incredible
0:28 design work and Engineering work and
0:32 he came out on his own a few years
0:34 back and he was kind of having that
0:37 that life crisis right that moment of
0:40 truth do I want my own company still I
0:42 got a beautiful woman in Brazil and dude
0:46 you know really what are my next
0:47 steps and you sat there for quite a
0:50 while and really thought on it and you
0:52 really wanted to make that next right
0:54 decision and you said something really
0:57 sweet and that was that we kind of
0:58 pitched this idea to him about doing a
1:00 podcast and that really resonated for
1:03 you right it totally did
1:08 what’s happening is I’m just kind of
1:10 feeling stuck
1:12 uh where I really don’t know what to do
1:14 because it’s not working for me it’s not
1:17 there but I want to do something I want
1:19 to have to start a reason I’m in this
1:21 all ground soil because well first of
1:23 all reason I quit my job because I want
1:24 to help small businesses with my all
1:26 experience right and I just felt like
1:28 I’m not able to move forward somewhere
1:30 it’s just not there what is I’m missing
1:33 and then that’s something that I think
1:34 we talk about that and I said okay wait
1:36 a minute
1:37 that’s the right way to do it I just
1:39 need to find the right way I just need
1:41 to not give up and just like wait for
1:45 the right opportunity which is basically
1:46 this podcast coming into the picture
1:48 when I’m kind of helping people and it’s
1:51 working with you guys and sharing some
1:54 exciting stories I think I mean because
1:55 I’m all people person so stories are
1:57 great for me and I’m just to share
1:59 a little bit of fun is that he was going
2:01 through that whole personal building of
2:03 business being an engineer your thing is
2:06 not sales so you were having that whole
2:08 struggle and you were seeing a doubt
2:11 right you were gonna jump and instead
2:13 you decided that the next right step for
2:16 you in your heart was to stay doing what
2:19 you truly love and now you’re working on
2:21 like six projects it like just
2:25 fell into place just right and so
2:28 for me looking at the right steps is
2:30 really knowing everything right what you
2:32 truly want what your you know the facts
2:34 and your belief tell me kind of what
2:36 you’re thinking yeah you know because
2:38 you’re talking about that I think it
2:39 really applies at various stages right
2:41 whether you’re just getting started on
2:43 something and you don’t even know you
2:45 know feel like you have to have
2:47 everything planned out and you feel like
2:49 you have to know your future 20 years
2:50 out oh my God that’s a man I need to
2:52 know the map right sorry go ahead
2:56 or you’re been running your business
2:58 for a while and now you’ve hit one of
3:00 those time periods where everything got
3:01 hard right yeah we all know that right
3:04 yeah we’ve all been there at some point
3:05 or maybe you’re in a career even and
3:07 you’re considering moving out to try a
3:11 product or you know try a startup or
3:13 whatever it be
3:14 I think it’s this kind of way of
3:16 thinking about things when you’re when
3:18 you know you need to keep moving forward
3:20 but you’re not exactly sure how to get
3:22 to the big picture path that you have in
3:24 your mind it’s kind of that idea of okay
3:26 well let’s take the next right step
3:28 because I can only see three steps in
3:30 front of me but maybe when I take the
3:31 next right one I start to see a little
3:33 further down the road I think one of the
3:35 key for that one is like do that next
3:38 step you I think I mentioned that in
3:40 earlier podcast is like you need to know
3:42 why you want to do those things or
3:44 what’s really you care about why and if
3:48 you know that I think it will help you
3:49 easier to take that next right step and
3:53 you can move into a confidence
3:54 absolutely yeah because you’ll you know
3:56 I’ve run into Folks at times where
3:57 you’re in a you’re in a position where
3:59 you’re going you’re growing your
4:01 business is just taking off and suddenly
4:03 something outside of your control
4:04 happens right the economy tanks or you
4:07 know covid we all experience that
4:09 and it really can be paralyzing right I
4:12 actually worked with a lot of people
4:13 during that time period where
4:17 they didn’t have a plan for that
4:19 and so how do you plan for that kind of
4:21 thing right it takes Everybody by
4:22 surprise
4:23 and so a lot of people were just got very
4:25 very stuck they’re like
4:27 I don’t know what to do
4:29 I just kind of throw
4:30 up my hands bury my head in the sand and
4:32 wait for it all to blow over or whatever
4:35 for me at the time the next right thing
4:38 because it was like Well everybody’s
4:39 afraid they don’t want to you know they
4:41 don’t want to be out there kind of
4:42 marketing their products whatever be
4:44 for me at the time the next right thing
4:46 especially when early lockdowns happened
4:49 is I just decided to take a step back
4:52 and tell all the clients that you know
4:54 had a heavy impact right all the
4:56 service based ones everything I was like
4:59 we’re going to continue doing everything
5:00 we’ve been doing for you and we’re not
5:02 going to charge you for x amount of time like don’t worry about it
5:07 and it was weird and it was like
5:10 that sounds like the exact opposite
5:12 thing that you want to be doing right
5:13 then right because I had no idea if our
5:16 it would last forever yeah I have no
5:18 idea how long this is going to last how
5:20 long people are going to be shut down
5:21 whatever it was
5:22 because I had seen and in past
5:24 recessions and issues and that the folks
5:27 who continued pressing
5:29 on and didn’t kind of cave to the
5:31 fear ended up coming out so far ahead
5:34 afterward and so in that case was
5:37 the next right step scary for you for me
5:40 it was scary right it was hugely a huge
5:42 stress off of them right because they
5:44 didn’t have to like make one more
5:45 decision
5:46 interestingly enough
5:48 we really did see that turn very quickly
5:51 right and so for in some areas it was
5:53 very different but there was a very
5:54 quick shift and then the folks who had
5:57 continued on because we just
5:59 continued forward saw you know great
6:01 benefits out of that I didn’t even plan
6:03 to sell that story but as we were
6:04 talking about it no it’s just kind of
6:05 perfect
6:07 we’ll show you too it’s interesting
6:09 because
6:09 you know during that time you know we
6:12 were funded by the government and there
6:13 were all these things and
6:15 it really became a blessing in some ways
6:17 right there were money finally people
6:19 got extra money that they didn’t expect
6:20 to get and if they had taken that
6:23 fear-based step and backed out
6:26 you could have lost a lot of your
6:28 business they could have gone under I
6:30 mean there was a lot that could have
6:31 happened and you followed your heart on
6:34 your next step which made their next
6:36 step easier exactly which is sometimes
6:44 when you
6:47 you are in the right intent it does help
6:50 that what’s that the pebble
6:53 thing you know in the water look what
6:54 you did ripples yeah and at that point
6:57 you know it was it was one of those
6:59 things where it’s like this this almost
7:00 feels illogical in a sense but knowing
7:03 in the Moment Like This is what I need
7:05 to do now and then fast forwarding that
7:07 I never could have predicted but you
7:09 know some of those clients of course
7:11 came through that and they’re doing even
7:13 better than they were right and so even
7:15 that level of trust and knowing like oh
7:18 okay we’ve got a real partnership here
7:20 right and someone that you know they now
7:22 know like my heart is
7:24 exactly here to help them and so you
7:27 know that has that has been a huge
7:29 benefit too well and I know that you’re
7:31 going to say I’m off topic so you can shoo me
7:33 back a little bit but you know it’s
7:34 funny
7:36 over the years you know we’ve
7:38 talked a little bit about you know I
7:39 love Anthony Robinson and I remember
7:42 him in the very early years and he had
7:44 all these stops and you have to you have
7:47 to take action you have to have goals
7:48 you have to whatever and then there was
7:50 a point where he shifted and he was like
7:53 he had a couple
7:56 they went on a goal setting weekend and
7:57 they tell everybody when you’re writing
7:59 your goals you’re gonna act like you got
8:01 it you’re gonna do whatever and there
8:02 was a couple that was going to win the
8:03 lottery because they were in their 60s
8:05 they were retired but they wanted they
8:07 had a big family and they wanted to
8:08 create the things and so their goal was
8:10 to win the lottery and he was like you
8:13 guys like I love that your enthusiasms
8:16 for that but I think you should have a
8:18 real strategy and they’re like nope
8:19 we’re gonna believe it and three weeks
8:21 later they won the lottery and they went
8:23 home and literally told their neighbors
8:25 they had won the lottery and so he
8:27 started shifting
8:29 in his talks that there’s a bigger
8:30 Force out there whether whatever you
8:32 call that the Universe or God
8:34 whatever he said he realized that
8:36 there’s some power out there that when
8:39 you believe and you connect and you
8:42 use you know he loves that you use his
8:44 tools but there’s something sometimes
8:46 that you know that nobody else will
8:49 believe that you know and for you
8:52 knew that this was stuff you had to give
8:54 you didn’t necessarily know the logic
8:56 and the reason
8:57 other than you knew you wanted to
8:58 help these people and make this work and
9:00 so sometimes it’s just bigger than us
9:02 and so if we what is it saying that your
9:05 journey only starts with one stab so you
9:08 don’t have to know what’s going to be
9:10 next or be next or be next so don’t get
9:12 overwhelmed right don’t get caught in
9:15 that don’t get this yeah especially
9:17 especially if someone’s discouraged
9:18 right I think that’s really easy to kind
9:21 of be
9:22 gets hard get discouraged all the things
9:24 go wrong at once it’s easy to like you
9:26 know pull the ejection seat and just
9:28 come out of here you know I think we’ve
9:30 all faced that and especially if you’re
9:31 going to be an entrepreneur if you’re
9:32 going to be
9:33 you feel the product it’s always
9:36 there you’re only like a few bad things
9:37 away from being like oh did I make a
9:39 terrible decision so and I gotta will
9:42 you make a terrible decision but just
9:44 don’t hang on to that one just go for
9:47 the next big thing like there if you’re
9:49 stuck in that one you will never gonna
9:51 move forward and I’ve seen like going
9:53 back what are you mentioning about the
9:55 during 2020 I know there’s
9:57 some business owners they completely got
10:00 closed their business but then there’s
10:01 some business owners there like just
10:03 trying to find out how I’m going to make
10:05 it and they find the innovative ways to
10:07 make
10:09 that 2020 to their advantage because
10:11 they made the right choices it would be
10:13 a huge risk right choices but now they
10:16 are more successful than they could have
10:17 been well and you know that makes me
10:19 think of Hyundai
10:21 during the recession Hyundai realized
10:24 that if we bought back your car if you
10:26 lost your job they increased their sales
10:28 and they did one of the best years they
10:29 ever had was during the recession and so
10:31 they found the pain point for people so
10:33 that they felt safe to purchase and so
10:36 those are the kind of steps that you
10:37 want to think about is like you know and
10:39 that’s what you did I took the girl and
10:43 so you did you thought about those poor
10:45 clients and what step would be the best
10:48 for them
10:50 knowing that we’ll get through it
10:52 together and so I do think there’s an
10:55 intelligent way of looking at the
10:57 stuckness because we’re all gonna hit it
11:00 you all do and we know that it can
11:03 take years to get stuff to Market so you
11:05 know when you hit that do try to look at
11:08 you know yeah I mean I’m sure you faced
11:10 it as well I mean how many times have
11:12 you have you called on somebody and you
11:14 just get hung up on or they’re just like
11:16 no or this is a terrible idea whatever
11:17 the feedback is right if you were to
11:19 quit then and it’s you know it’s kind of
11:22 a persistence thing but even let’s say
11:24 you did get down to the wrong path like
11:26 like Pawan mentioned right oh I made
11:28 this terrible decision back then well
11:30 you can’t just sit there the way to get
11:32 back on the path is to take the next
11:34 right step back to where you really
11:36 intended to go right maybe you maybe you
11:38 got off of your mission or maybe you
11:40 know maybe you just thought you were on
11:42 the right path and now you found a
11:43 failure point it’s kind of that like
11:45 next step back to where you need to
11:47 be I mean same thing if I was like
11:49 feeling like that when I was going
11:50 through the tough patch and I was like
11:51 oh it’s not working out nothing is going
11:54 on and I just not stopped thinking about
11:56 it or not listening to my heart or not
11:58 taking the opportunities presented to me
12:00 like this podcast I would be in the same
12:03 position
12:04 so just like I just trust my heart and
12:06 just decide okay I’m gonna move on to
12:08 the next one and take right decisions
12:10 and it works great well and I think like
12:13 you were saying
12:15 I have a client who wants a licensing deal
12:18 first company was like who’s like
12:20 first right of refusal they did all
12:21 their due diligence and then they ended
12:23 up passing at the last hour then we
12:25 moved to the second one who actually
12:27 sent us an email saying we’re gonna make
12:28 you an offer and then two weeks
12:30 something came up in their company and
12:31 passed and if you want to go what
12:36 you know because I’ve hit all these
12:37 other companies but what I have learned
12:39 is that when I take a breath I go back
12:42 to the research because
12:44 I always think you know when you
12:46 start out I’ve got the huge strategy I
12:48 know there’s 74 companies I know these
12:50 are the big players this is whatever but
12:52 I am blown away every time when I hit
12:54 Google
12:55 known as Pawan
12:58 I am so blown away by what
13:00 something changes every day like we
13:02 live in a world that’s this bad because
13:04 we all Drive within 10 miles of our
13:05 house and we all have our same families
13:07 and our friends and we do this certain
13:08 stuff but the world isn’t this little
13:10 and it blows my mind when I start to
13:12 research that I’m like oh I never even
13:14 thought to try this whole path or you
13:18 know like I said have a conversation
13:19 look for the pain points start thinking
13:21 about oh does that fit in into what may
13:24 be going on in the world somewhere else
13:26 and how can you help because I
13:28 really do think those things show up
13:30 when you’re stuck
13:31 may not show up that hour or even
13:33 that week but I do think those things
13:35 come so
13:37 and then like you said I play the
13:39 fight song
13:40 yeah exactly or Rocky and I think it you
13:43 know it’s sort of obvious but if I were
13:46 going to give a tip around all this it
13:47 would be to just ask yourself that
13:50 question when you’re in whether you know
13:51 whatever situation you’re in where
13:53 you’re like I’m really stuck or I’m
13:55 really uncomfortable or I don’t know
13:57 what to do now ask yourself okay what’s
13:59 the next right thing
14:01 right thing I like that you throw in the
14:02 right thing and I think well I will say
14:05 just like trust your heart because you
14:07 know always inside that what’s right
14:08 thing that fear cause you not to think
14:11 about that then that’s my tip ask
14:14 yourself what would I do if I wasn’t
14:15 afraid what would I do if I wasn’t
14:17 afraid and you know what blows my mind
14:19 the most
14:21 and I have a 30 year old daughter and
14:23 she quit her job and is pushing her new
14:27 business full-time January and she just
14:29 called me on the way when I was over
14:31 here and she’s like Mom I’ve done more
14:33 money this week than I actually even
14:36 need like blown away and it was because
14:39 we talked about this I’m like
14:42 what would you do if you weren’t afraid
14:43 and she’s like I would do this but I
14:46 don’t have the money and I’m like well
14:48 commit to doing it and the money comes
14:51 now sometimes it comes from me I will
14:53 say but it does or the customers show up
14:57 or the it does it really does so you
14:59 guys believe in your yourself be honest
15:02 with yourself ask the right questions
15:04 like what’s the next right thing it’s
15:06 amazing how the right words kind of
15:09 trigger the right answer so
